I don't maintain a database, so nothing is stored with me — only your chat window, which I delete in a timely manner. I don't even have a gimmicky way on this website to take your data and then bombard you with marketing. If you want to remain anonymous throughout the process, you absolutely can. Privacy is of utmost importance, just like the radical self responsibility of your setup.
No. I will never control your Bitcoin. Moving or storing your Bitcoin requires your participation. I never ask for your seed phrase and never will. I only guide you during the entire process so that you don't make any mistakes — like leaking privacy — and ensure triple verification of software, safe generation of the seed, and much, much more.
I only recommend open-source and verifiable tools. No proprietary hardware or software that is closed source. This was the case even before the Coldcard fiasco. Proprietary hardware companies are like designer brands: good for nothing.
On an exchange, the platform holds the keys and you hold a credit claim or IOU against the company — you are a creditor, not an owner. In self-custody, you control the keys directly, so the Bitcoin is yours, just like physical possession of the chain or ring or watch you are wearing. Self custody eliminates counterparty risk, while exchanges reintroduce it through hacks, insolvency, frozen withdrawals and centralised attacks.
This should be the first thought before getting significant amounts of Bitcoin — which is exactly why inheritance planning is key.
